Léo Bouchard’s story: A legacy of generosity
09 January 2025 News
Mr. Léo Bouchard was a fervent contributor to the mission of the Pediatric Research Foundation, even after his death. In planning a donation in his will, Mr. Bouchard chose to perpetuate his values of altruism and solidarity, an inspiring gesture that will have the power to change the lives of many generations following his own.
Unfortunately, we didn’t have any children of our own, as nature would have it otherwise. I feel a certain sense of pride and happiness in thinking that I’m contributing in my own way to the future of little ones.
For about a decade, Léo gave annually to the Foundation, and at the end of his life he chose to include a donation in his will as part of his estate plan. Today, this generous gesture helps fund research into childhood diseases.
Planning a legacy that changes lives
The testamentary donation is flexible to your reality: you can choose to bequeath all your money, a percentage of your estate, or even specific assets, such as a property or a work of art. The choice is yours and can be adapted to your means, whatever your financial situation may be.
The many benefits of a charitable bequest
Any reason is a good one for giving to the Foundation, but a donation in your will offers a number of tangible advantages.
First of all, a donation in your will allows you to benefit from tax and financial advantages. A tax credit for charitable activities (such as a donation to the Foundation) can greatly reduce the tax burden of your heirs.
Above all, you can make a much larger gift than would be possible during your lifetime. Since the contribution does not affect your bank account on a monthly basis, you can enjoy your assets for as long as you live, knowing that your legacy will make a difference to countless children.
An easy way to give
If a charitable bequest is the symbol of a lifetime’s work, it’s also one of the easiest ways to give to a cause close to your heart. For reference, your estate includes all your assets: property, furniture, business assets, investments, vehicles… Even after paying off your debts, just 1% of your estate can easily represent thousands of dollars donated to a good cause. You can calculate your potential contribution right here.
How do I organize my bequest?
If you’d like to include us in your estate plan, we’d be eternally grateful. Here’s how it works:
- Consult a notary or financial advisor to include your donation in your will.
- Choose the Pediatric Research Foundation as your beneficiary
- Inform us of your intention so that we can thank you and recognize your generosity.
Like Léo Bouchard, you too can plan your legacy gift today. Just as previous generations made possible today’s advances, your choice to leave a legacy could fuel discoveries in pediatric research, building a brighter future for tomorrow’s children.
“Courage, little ones!”
In 2015, when Mr. Bouchard was asked about his motivations for making a testamentary gift, his intentions were clear:
I would certainly recommend the Foundation for future donations to anyone, as it’s a cause very close to my heart. I think it’s about finding out for yourself what your priorities are. In my case, for example, I’ve decided to donate rather than travel, which is my way of saying: “Courage, little ones, I’m behind you and I’m thinking of you!”
We offer our most sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Léo Bouchard, and especially thank him from the bottom of our hearts for his gesture, the repercussions of which will undoubtedly stand the test of time.
